OUR COMPANY'S HISTORY

The Company’s roots go back to 1988 when Gene Galat purchased a large 5 acre lot in rural Tremont that had lots of grass to mow. His father-in-law, Walt Meyer, had recently purchased a Yazoo mower from Midwest Equipment in Peoria. Gene liked the simplicity of Walt’s Yazoo and went over to Peoria to buy one for himself. Gene did buy a used Yazoo 76” mower and in the process learned that Midwest Equipment was for sale! Gene bought the business located at 3223 W. Farmington Rd in Peoria and formed a partnership with Rob Wildermuth from Tremont. Gene was a silent partner and Rob was in charge of all the operations.

In 1990, they purchased the current facility at 4826 W. Farmington Rd, a former meat market. That building underwent many remodeling changes to become what it is today. In 1992, Gene’s brother-in-law, Rob’s friend and Walt's kid, Steve Meyer, returned to Tremont from Papua, New Guinea. Gene actually met Steve at the airport in Seattle and asked him to consider working with Midwest Equipment. Steve agreed and eventually became a partner with Rob in the business by buying out Gene.

Midwest Equipment has grown with a philosophy of representing quality lines of lawn maintenance equipment and providing excellent service to this equipment after the sale. This philosophy will continue to fuel our growth into the 21st century.
